I also include fun things to do for reading, spelling, and sight word practice on our weekly homework sheet for parents to use at home with their child.

Differentiation
I try to base homework off current student needs.  For math and reading, the level of homework your child is getting correlates with what I think they are ready for at this time.  If you want to make the weekly homework more difficult for your child, have them read the directions, and complete it independently.
