1st grade weekly news 5-12-15

There are less than two weeks left of school...wow! This week and next week will be crazy so I have a few updates below...
There will be no more homework for the rest of the year. I told the kids this, so they know as well. However, they still have books in their kiwi bags that they should be reading throughout the week. I will collect those books on Friday.
I sent home a calendar yesterday that has our specials schedule as well as important dates listed on it. Please make sure you take a peek.
Fun day is this Friday May 15th. Ours is in the afternoon from 1-3pm. Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes and sunscreen to school that day. Also, I would recommend sending them with a water bottle. If it is raining, we will have fun day on that following Monday.
Our all school read-in is Tuesday May 19th at 2:45. We will be going outside if the weather is nice. Your child can bring a blanket or towel to sit/lay on and books from home to read.
Yearbook signing will be Wednesday May 20th in the morning. If your child would like to bring a special writing utensil from home that would be great!
Wednesday May 20th and Thursday May 21st are half days, and the students will be dismissed at 11:30.
Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns! Have a great week!

Hi there! Hope everyone will get a chance to enjoy the nice weather! Below are some important updates for this week so take a peek!
Box Tops- the contest will be ending tomorrow (Tuesday), so please have your kiddo turn any that you have at home before then.
April newsletter- will be coming home sometime this week...so be looking for it either in your child's purple folder, in an email, or on our class blog :)
1st grade music program- is next Tuesday April 7th at 6:30. Mrs. Teldhorst would like the kids to arrive at 6:15. You may walk them down to our classroom where they will wait with me until it begins. Please make sure you read over the green note that she sent home last week...it tells when, where, and what to wear.
Counselor lesson- this month she is doing a good touch, bad touch lesson. A note went home about it last week. You only need to sign and return it if you don't want your child to participate in the lesson.
Checking folders- please make sure you are checking the front and back pocket at least 3 times a week. Some of the kiddos folders are getting really full, and I want to make sure you are looking at their graded work coming home, as well as the information being passed out at school.
If you have any questions or concerns call or email me. Have a great week!

Hi everyone! I hope
you had a wonderful spring break…the weather was amazing (for the most part)!
Please read our classroom updates for this week!
Grade cards were sent home today. Please look over them, if you have any
questions or concerns don’t hesitate to call or email me. After you have looked over the grade card,
please make sure to sign the envelope and have your child return it to
school. We reuse the same envelope each
time grade cards go home.
New reading groups have started! I will be letting you know what level your
child is at, and what we will be focusing on this last quarter sometime this
week through a phone call or email.
The Box Tops contest is almost over, so if you have some at home
PLEASE SEND THEM IN!!! They are a really
good way to help our school raise money.
A letter from Ms. Parsons (counselor) is coming home
today. She will be coming in to each
classroom during April to talk about “good touch and bad touch.” The paper only has to be returned if you DO
NOT want your child to participate in the lesson.
We have started our last quarter, and I know things get
really busy during spring…but please make sure your child is reading at home as
much as possible, as well as taking part in their weekly homework. Splash Math and RAZKids are great things to do
at home as well!
If you have any questions or concerns please call or email me, have a fantastic week!

Hi there! Hope everyone had a great weekend...even though the weather probably kept us all inside. Below you will find information about this week...
The March newsletter has been emailed out and sent home so take a peek! On it you will find what we will be learning this month, as well as birthdays, important dates, and notes to parents.
Spring Pictures are tomorrow! Every child will take an individual, and we will also take a group shot. They will be developed and sent home with you, and you will have the chance to purchase if you would like.
Dr. Suess spirit week is taking place in honor of Dr. Suess' birthday. Today was dress like your favorite character, tomorrow is Crazy socks, Wed. is Neon day, Thurs. is hat day, and Friday is pajama day.
Also sent home was a weekly reading sheet. It is a picture of The Cat in the Hat's hat :). If your child does their nightly reading Monday-Thursday and then returns their sheet to school on Thursday or Friday, they will get to participate in pajama day! Read, read, read, and read some more!
Book orders will be sent home tomorrow, and since I am a day late getting them out, the due date won't be until Monday of next week.
I am in the middle of getting all of the kids tested for their new reading levels. When I am done, I will send home information to let you know where they are at the end of this 3rd quarter. We would like for all of them to be reading at a level G right now, and then at a level I at the end of the year.
If you have any questions or concerns please call or email me. Have a great week!

Hi everyone! Hope you enjoyed the long weekend! Below are some updates for this week...
Our Time For Kids fundraiser has started. The packet came home tonight in your child's purple folder along with an informational note on how to fill out the packet. The kids were given information about it at lunch. If they bring it back filled out before the end of the week then they get a prize!
Parent/Teacher conferences went great! Thank you so much for meeting with me about your child, I enjoyed talking to each and every one of you!
I informed some of you about the phonics sheet included in the weekly homework- it contains our weekly spelling words so if your child completes that sheet and studies the words on it, they will do well on the test.
There have been some issues with behavior in the classroom. Talking has been our biggest issue, but keeping our hands to ourselves and following directions has also been disruptive. The kids and I have talked about it a lot at school so if you could at home as well that would be fabulous!
That is all I have for this short week! Email or call if you have any questions or concerns! :)

Well, the groundhog saw his shadow...I'm not impressed! Bring on spring! I have some important information below of things going on in our classroom so take a look.
February newsletter is uploaded to our website. And for those parents who still wanted a paper copy, it came home yesterday. Please read through it. It is short and sweet but also keeps you updated for things happening this month.
Valentines Party will be next week on Thursday, Feb. 12th. Any parents are welcome to join. The party will start at 10:15 and end at 11:00. Since it is a half day of school dismissal will be at 11:30. If you are taking your child home with you that day there will be a sign out sheet in my room. Room parents may come in as early at 9:50 to start setting up.
*I have been asked about a class list for valentines...there is a class list on the website under "Class Info." I was hoping to save paper, but I will send one home later this week as well.
Parent/teacher conferences are Wed. Feb. 11th 4-8 p.m. and Thurs. Feb. 12th 1-8 p.m. I sent home reminders of our day and time yesterday. I am looking forward to talking with you about your child.
Reading at home and doing the weekly homework is very important. In order to move up in reading levels your child should be reading as much as they can at home. The books in kiwi bags are very important. We want all students to be reading at a level G by the end of this 3rd quarter.
I try to make the weekly homework easy and painless. The phonics sheet that I have started sending home has our 10 spelling words on it. So it is great practice before the test Friday.
That is all! If you have any questions or concerns please call or email me. Have a great week.
